From June 11th to 15th, 2018, the Quantitative Genetics Group held a new training course on "Genetic Mapping and Breeding Design" at Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Sichuan Province. There were 114 professors, and postgraduate students participated in this training course.

In this week, Professor Jiankang Wang introduced the basic principles of population genetics and quantitative genetics, recombination estimation and linkage map construction, principle and method of simple interval mapping, principle and method of GWAS, genetic analysis of clones and multi-parental groups, GS model and breeding platform, breeding simulation and design and so on. Professor Wang also introduced the integrated software packages GACD and GAPL, and explained partial functionalities of the QTL IciMapping software. Professor Huihui Li introduced principle of ICIM, main functionalities of QTL IciMapping, and the application of excel in genetic analysis. Master degree student Zhiyong Li introduced the AOV functionality in the QTL IciMapping software and the TASSEL software.

On last day of the course, participants had a perspective discussion, raised valuable suggestions on the training course, gave feedbacks to software packages, and gave suggestion about content of the course. Professor Wang made detailed answers. The National 973 Project “Genomic selection of Wheat yield and quality traits” funded the training course.

The series training course aims to educate agricultural scientists and graduate students to understand basic knowledge of population genetics, quantitative genetics, genetic analysis, and design breeding, to improve their ability in data analysis, and ultimately to apply to the genetic analysis in their research. The training course has been held for 24 times since 2007, and will be held in China and abroad occasionally.
