Mohsin Ali, the first international graduate student in our group, recently received the 2017 Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS). Our group is one among the more than 40 research groups at Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. We focus on genetic data analysis, applied quantitative genetics, biometrics, bioinformatics and their applications in plant breeding. Mohsin was born and raised in Punjab, Pakistan. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Molecular Plant Breeding from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan. He joined our group in March 2017 as a Ph.D. student.  The BGS award Mohsin received is outstanding, and highly competitive. Only 10% of the international students at CAAS can have the opportunity.

In his Ph.D. research, Mohsin is investigating how modeling and simulation tools can efficiently be used to accelerate genetic gain in wheat. The outcome of his research will enable better understanding of economic traits with different genetic architecture and background. In addition, he is quite amazing in learning programming languages and exploring new ways for data visualization. Apart from his enthusiastic and productive participation in various research projects, his lively and helping attitude brings positive energy to our team.
